Washington Nationals Recap & Review

By Dave Carter – Contributing Writer For Capitol Times Media

Nationals 4 game win streak ended --

Just like ill health forcing Curley to retire from the Three Stooges, all good things must come

to an end. Yes, the Washington Nationals' four-game winning streak came to a screeching

halt yesterday. Now, the Stooges were fortunate enough to have Shemp waiting in the

wings, but what's next for the Nats? Only time will tell.

The Kansas City Royals hit a leadoff home run in the top of the first, another solo dinger in

the second, and Back to Back round-trippers in the third. The Royals added a couple more

runs in the sixth and defeated the Nationals 6-2.

Nationals starting pitcher Zack Littell pitched five innings and gave up seven hits (4 HR's)

with the loss his record is even at six wins and six losses for this season--

Washington's runs came courtesy of C. J. Abrams' RBI double in the sixth, followed by

Dylan Crews' run scoring single.

Nats Second baseman Nazim Nunez had a great three -game series for the hometown boys going six for seven with two triples and scoring five runs. The Nats have today off before starting a three-game series on Friday in Tampa Bay. Washington currently sits in third place in the NL East, eight games behind Atlanta, with a record of 39 and 36. Now, it's never too early to start thinking about the post-season, with Washington definitely in the running for a wild card berth. But, quite a few teams can claim the same thing. Keep the faith!

DAVE'S DIMES --Nostalgia ---

This was back in the fall of 1968. I was a senior in high school and I loved the Detroit Tigers. '68 was the year of the amazing World Series between Detroit and St. Louis. Mickey Lolich, Bob Gibson, Jim Northrup, an epic comeback by the Tigers.

Of course, back then all series games were played during the day. Well, on this one particular day, I was wasting away in a study hall class wishing I was anywhere else sitting in front of a television set watching the game. My study hall teacher somehow noticed my look of utter frustration bordering on self-harm and asked what was wrong.

I told him and, believe it or not, he suggested I make my way to the teacher's lounge and watch the game on their TV set. I get choked up just thinking about it, and obviously it made a lasting impression on me since I think about that day and those times quite often. Simpler times...simpler pleasures...lasting memories.
