In response to the U.S.'s warning that Tehran could provide Moscow with drones for its action in Ukraine, Putin will visit Iran next week, the Kremlin said Tuesday.
Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesman, announced on Friday that Putin will attend a trilateral meeting with Iranian and Turkish leaders in Tehran next Tuesday. This format is known as the Astana format for Syria-related meetings.
Putin’s visit to Iran will follow U.S. President Joe Biden’s trip to Israel and Saudi Arabia this week, where Iran’s nuclear program and malign activities in the region will be a key subject of discussion.
In response to Russia's actions in Ukraine, the White House said Monday it believed Tehran was providing the country with "hundreds" of drones.
“Iran’s cooperation with Russia in some sophisticated technologies dates to before the Russia-Ukraine war,” he said. “There has not been any special development in this regard recently.”
