Tensions in the Middle East surged dramatically this week after Iranian officials issued a chilling threat against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, vowing to “pursue and kill” him as the conflict between Iran and the U.S.–Israel alliance enters its third week.
The threat reportedly came from Iran’s powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which declared that if Netanyahu is still alive, it will continue working to hunt him down with “all our strength.”
The threat follows a series of major military operations carried out by Israel and the United States targeting Iranian military and government infrastructure. Israeli officials say the campaign—known as Operation Roaring Lion—aims to dismantle Iran’s regime and eliminate the country’s nuclear and missile capabilities.
Speaking in a national address earlier this week, Netanyahu declared that Israel and its allies are “crushing the terrorist regime in Iran” and expanding operations against Iran-backed militant groups such as Hezbollah.
The war erupted in late February after a coordinated strike by Israel and the United States targeted Iranian leadership and military facilities in Tehran and other cities. The operation reportedly killed several senior Iranian officials, including longtime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Iranian officials have vowed retaliation against both Israel and the United States, launching missile and drone attacks across the region while threatening further escalation.
The IRGC’s statement against Netanyahu reflects the growing hostility from Tehran’s leadership, which has repeatedly blamed Israel for attacks on its military infrastructure and leadership.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has said Iran may be seeking an end to the conflict but warned that Washington will not negotiate unless Tehran agrees to strict conditions, including abandoning its nuclear ambitions.
Trump has insisted that the military campaign is proceeding successfully and that Iran’s leadership is under immense pressure from the ongoing strikes.
The ongoing conflict has destabilized the Middle East, with rising fears of a broader regional war involving Hezbollah, Gulf states, and other Iranian proxies. Oil markets, global shipping routes, and regional security remain under severe strain as military operations continue.
With Iran openly threatening Israel’s leader and Israeli forces expanding their operations inside Iranian territory, analysts warn that the conflict could enter an even more dangerous phase in the coming weeks.
