Federal judges have dismissed parents' lawsuit against Attorney General Merrick Garland over his memo characterizing school district protests as threats.

The memo Garland issued on Oct. 4, 2021, stated that school administrators, board members, teachers, and staff had been harassed, intimidated, and threatened with violence on an alarming scale. According to the DOJ, it would use its authority and resources to identify such threats, discourage them, and prosecute people involved.

As part of a lawsuit filed against Merrick on Oct. 19, 2021, Saline Parents, a group of parents in Saline, Michigan, as well as six parents from Loudon County, Virginia, filed a claim for damages.
