As part of their preparation for the NATO summit in Spain later this month, Secretary-General Stoltenberg and a small group of leaders are meeting in the Netherlands to discuss Russia's war in Ukraine.
Mette Frederiksen, his Danish counterpart, co-hosted an informal gathering at Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte's official residence in The Hague. In addition to Romania's president, Belgique, Poland, Portugal, and Latvia's prime ministers attended the meeting.
“My message on Swedish and Finnish membership is that I strongly welcome that,” said NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, who also attended. “It’s an historic decision. It will strengthen them, it will strengthen us.”
According to him, the alliance also needs to consider the concerns that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has raised regarding the support of Kurdish militants, whom Ankara identifies as terrorists.
