A nuclear war would have no winners and should not be considered, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Monday.

A few months after the Ukraine-Russia war began, Russian President Vladimir Putin made the remarks at a conference on the nonproliferation treaty. Putin placed the country's nuclear forces on high alert days after the Feb. 24 invasion, sparking worldwide concerns about a nuclear war or World War III.

"Russia consistently observes the letter and spirit of the [Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons]," Putin wrote.

It has also fully fulfilled its bilateral obligations with the United States for the reduction and limitation of relevant weapons. Putin also said that his country believes a nuclear war can never end in a winner.
