Opinion: The Dangerous Folly of Recognizing a Palestinian State While Hamas Holds Hostages

As the world watches in disbelief, a growing chorus of Western nations—including Canada, France, and the UK—has begun a disgraceful campaign to legitimize a so-called "Palestinian state" in the middle of an active war against Israel, all while Hamas, a U.S.-designated terrorist organization, still holds innocent civilians hostage in Gaza.
Germany’s Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, in a stunning display of moral detachment, stated today that “the process” toward Palestinian statehood “can no longer be held in abeyance.” He insists that only a “negotiated two-state solution” can provide peace, security, and dignity to both peoples. But what dignity is offered to Israeli families still grieving murdered children or praying daily for the safe return of their loved ones held underground by Hamas?
This reckless international push, led by progressive diplomats and leftist governments, rewards evil and punishes morality. Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney announced just yesterday that Canada will recognize a Palestinian state at the United Nations General Assembly this September. This is not diplomacy; it’s appeasement. It is a betrayal of Western values, a betrayal of Israel—our closest democratic ally in the Middle East—and a betrayal of truth itself.
Let’s be clear: there is no viable Palestinian government. The Palestinian Authority is corrupt, fractured, and lacks credibility, while Hamas—currently in control of Gaza—is a genocidal Islamic terrorist regime that openly calls for the destruction of Israel and the extermination of Jews. These are not freedom fighters; these are the modern-day Nazis, armed with rockets, ideology, and foreign sympathy.
What Germany, Canada, and others are doing is effectively rewriting the moral compass of international diplomacy. They are saying to the world: If you murder civilians, hide behind human shields, and indoctrinate children with hatred, you too can earn yourself a state.
For Christian conservatives, this moment is more than political—it is deeply spiritual. God’s covenant with Israel is not a vague suggestion or an outdated theological point; it is an eternal promise. Genesis 12:3 is clear: “I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse.” And yet, our nations are cursing Israel by legitimizing her enemies, and we will reap the consequences of that disobedience.
Recognizing a Palestinian state now does not promote peace. It postpones it. It undermines every effort by Israel to protect its citizens, defend its borders, and bring home its hostages. It sends a message to terrorists around the world that violence pays off, that the West has no spine, and that truth can be sacrificed on the altar of political convenience.
We pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6), but peace cannot come by rewarding evil. It comes through repentance, justice, and truth. It comes by standing with Israel, not by caving to the morally bankrupt pressures of globalist bureaucrats and Islamic apologists.
We call on all faithful Christians, conservatives, and patriots to stand firm. Speak up. Write your elected officials. Tell your churches. Tell your neighbors. The tide of history is being rewritten before our eyes. Will we be remembered as the generation that stood with God’s people—or the one that sold them out?
