WASHINGTON, D.C. — Federal Judge Paul Engelmayer isn’t letting the Justice Department off easy. In a sharply worded order filed Tuesday, the Manhattan-based judge made it clear that the DOJ’s attempt to unseal grand jury transcripts from Ghislaine Maxwell’s case is lacking in substance and transparency. And now, with President Donald Trump calling for the full release of Epstein-related evidence, the case has erupted with fresh urgency.
Engelmayer, in a four-page directive, stated the Court cannot grant the motion until more critical information is provided. He criticized the DOJ for failing to properly justify its request to unseal the sealed grand jury records — records many believe could implicate elites, politicians, and global power players connected to Jeffrey Epstein’s dark web of abuse.
“The Justice Department’s brief doesn’t adequately address the complex legal standards required for unsealing grand jury material,” the judge said, signaling a refusal to rubber-stamp the government’s efforts without scrutiny.
Engelmayer has ordered the DOJ to submit a detailed supplemental brief by July 29 — outlining whether they’ve already examined the transcripts, and if victims were even informed prior to the motion being filed. The court also wants a full index of all grand jury materials, the unredacted transcripts, a proposed redacted version, and any other relevant documentation — all to be filed under seal.
Meanwhile, defense attorneys for Ghislaine Maxwell are asking for access to the very materials the government wants to make public. “We’ve never even seen the full transcripts ourselves,” said defense attorney David Oscar Markus, demanding the opportunity to craft a response before taking a position on public disclosure. He added that Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche has no objection to letting Maxwell’s team review the documents.
In another critical move, Judge Engelmayer has set a deadline of August 5 for victims to submit their views on whether the transcripts should be released — an acknowledgment that their voices must be heard before any revelations go public.
This all follows last week’s bombshell development: President Trump’s direct order to Attorney General Pam Bondi to release every shred of credible Epstein-related evidence. Conservatives have long called foul on the years of secrecy and establishment stonewalling surrounding the Epstein-Maxwell case. Now, Trump’s directive has forced the DOJ’s hand.
“President Trump has made it clear: no more cover-ups,” said Blanche in a statement shared on X by Pam Bondi. “If Ghislaine Maxwell has knowledge of any crimes, we will listen.”
Blanche is also expected to meet with Maxwell in person within days — a meeting that could potentially shake loose new revelations, long suppressed by both the political class and the media elite.
The release of the Maxwell transcripts could finally expose the high-powered individuals who have evaded justice for decades. If victims and the defense team are granted proper access, and the DOJ follows through with full compliance, the American people may soon learn what really happened behind the velvet curtains of Epstein’s network.
With President Trump making transparency a cornerstone of his fight against the deep state, this legal battle is more than just a court matter — it’s a fight for truth, accountability, and the end of elite immunity.
Stay tuned. The clock is ticking.
