Billionaire Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates found himself under intense scrutiny this week as he appeared before the House Oversight Committee investigating the far-reaching network and influence of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
During hours of closed-door testimony, Gates admitted that Epstein had attempted to use information about his personal life, including marital infidelities, as leverage to pressure him into maintaining contact. Gates insisted he never participated in criminal activity, never visited Epstein's private island, ranch, or Florida residence, and had no knowledge of the full extent of Epstein's crimes.
The testimony comes after the Justice Department's release of additional Epstein-related records, including emails and photographs documenting interactions between Gates and Epstein. Critics argue that powerful elites have repeatedly claimed ignorance despite maintaining relationships with Epstein after his 2008 conviction. Supporters of the investigation say the American people deserve complete transparency and the release of all remaining files.
Gates described his association with Epstein as a “grave error in judgment” and acknowledged that the relationship damaged both his reputation and the credibility of his philanthropic work. He further claimed that Epstein attempted to exploit personal information and false allegations in an unsuccessful effort to regain influence over him.
The House Oversight Committee continues its investigation into Epstein's network and the handling of the case by federal authorities. Lawmakers have already interviewed several high-profile figures connected to the Epstein files as calls grow louder for full accountability and justice for the victims.
