US pushes for tough stance on Russia in Biden, Modi address

Biden speak with Modi on Monday as he pushes world leaders to take action against Russia's invasion of Ukraine.


Moscow has praised India this month for its neutral stance amid speculation in Washington that India is taking a one-sided approach in the war. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov praised India for its impartial assessment of the situation. Washington is concerned


In spite of Western pressure to avoid buying Russian oil and gas, India continues to purchase Russian energy supplies. As a consequence of its recent purchase of advanced Russian air defense systems, the U.S. has also considered sanctions against India.
