WASHINGTON — President Donald J. Trump made it clear this weekend that America will not hesitate to act if Iran’s nuclear threat continues to endanger global security. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said he would not rule out deploying U.S. ground troops inside Iran, particularly to secure the regime’s stockpiles of enriched uranium.
The remarks come as the United States and its allies intensify military pressure on Tehran following recent strikes targeting Iranian nuclear infrastructure and military assets. According to reports, U.S. and Israeli officials are considering a possible special-forces mission to seize or neutralize Iran’s nuclear material if necessary.
Trump emphasized that such a move would only occur if there were a “very good reason,” noting that Iran’s military capabilities have already suffered heavy damage from ongoing operations. The president also suggested that the regime’s naval forces, missile systems, and leadership structure have been severely weakened in recent strikes.
“We wouldn’t do it now,” Trump said when asked about a ground mission, but he added that it could happen later if securing nuclear material requires it.
Supporters of the president argue that Trump’s willingness to keep all options open sends a strong message to adversaries who have long tested America’s resolve. The Iranian regime has spent years expanding its uranium enrichment capabilities, raising alarms in Washington and among U.S. allies in the Middle East.
Trump has repeatedly warned that Iran will never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon, a position that has defined his foreign policy since withdrawing the United States from the Obama-era Iran nuclear deal in 2018.
Despite rising tensions, the president has framed the strategy as a decisive effort to eliminate a threat that previous administrations failed to confront.
As the conflict unfolds, Washington is watching closely to see whether Tehran backs down — or whether the United States will take the next step to ensure that Iran’s nuclear ambitions are permanently dismantled.
