Trump Draws the Line: Federal Cuts Loom as Democrats Demand Billions for Illegals

WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald J. Trump sent a strong message to Congress today, warning that “a lot” of federal workers could lose their jobs if Democrats continue to block a clean stopgap funding bill — choosing instead to push for taxpayer-funded health care for illegal immigrants and trillions in new spending.

Speaking before departing the White House for a meeting with military leaders in Virginia, President Trump laid the blame squarely on Democrat obstruction. “We may do a lot,” Trump said when asked how many federal employees might be cut if a shutdown begins. “Democrats want to attach radical health care provisions that fund people who came to our country illegally — and no system can handle that.”

The President’s comments mark a pivotal moment as America stands on the brink of its first government shutdown in nearly seven years. While Trump and Republican leaders push for fiscal discipline and protection of American taxpayers, Democrats are reportedly holding the line for a $1.5 trillion package that includes “free” health care for illegal aliens.

Vice President JD Vance echoed the President’s stance after a Sept. 29 meeting with congressional leaders, accusing Democrats of “hostage-taking” over reckless spending demands. “They want a $1.5 trillion spending package that funds free health care for illegals,” Vance said. “We’re not going to let them bankrupt America for the sake of open-borders socialism.”

According to a White House memo obtained by The Epoch Times, agencies have been instructed to prepare Reduction in Force (RIF) notices in case of a lapse in government operations. The memo warns that Democrats are “signaling they intend to shut down the government in the coming days over a series of insane demands, including $1 trillion in new spending.”

Essential programs — including Social Security, Medicare, veterans’ benefits, military operations, law enforcement, and air traffic control — will continue uninterrupted. However, non-essential programs and agencies that rely on discretionary funding may face layoffs and temporary suspensions.

“Programs that did not benefit from an infusion of mandatory appropriations will bear the brunt of a shutdown,” the memo said, noting that only minimal staff needed to perform statutory functions will remain.

Conservative lawmakers are rallying behind President Trump’s stance, calling it a necessary stand against fiscal insanity and the radical left’s open-borders agenda.

“President Trump is doing what no other leader has had the courage to do — say no to Washington’s addiction to spending and no to handouts for illegal immigrants,” said Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA). “If Democrats want to shut down the government to protect illegals instead of Americans, that’s on them.”

Across conservative media, support for Trump’s tough negotiating position is surging. Commentators note that this is not merely a budget fight — it’s a battle for the soul of the Republic.

“This is about sovereignty, responsibility, and standing up for the forgotten men and women who pay the bills,” said Steve Bannon on War Room. “President Trump is forcing Washington to choose: America First or America Last.”

With negotiations hanging by a thread, the clock is ticking toward a midnight deadline. If no agreement is reached, a partial government shutdown could begin as early as next week.

Yet inside the White House, confidence remains high. “The President is standing firm for American taxpayers,” said Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. “He won’t sign a bill that rewards illegal immigration or fuels inflation with wasteful spending.”

As the showdown intensifies, one thing is clear: Trump is prepared to fight for a government that serves the American people — not the globalist elite or those who broke the law to enter this country.

America First. Fiscal sanity. Strong borders.

President Trump’s message to Washington: Put Americans first — or face the consequences.
