The Arizona Senate primary draws attention

Following the close of the polls on Aug. 2, political analysts across the country will closely monitor the Arizona primary election results.

Democrat Mark Kelly, who was elected to a Senate seat in a special election in 2020, will be the next opponent of the winner. On Nov. 8, Kelly will face the winner of the Republican contest since he doesn't have a Democratic opponent.

National political experts predicted the fall matchup in Arizona would be impossible to predict, calling it a solid toss-up. Forecasters consider Kelly's seat to be one of three that could change hands in November. It would be possible for Republicans to gain control of the Senate if Kelly or one of the other Democrat incumbents lose their races.

In Nevada, where Democrat Catherine Cortez-Masto has raised $23.6 million since January 2021, the Senate race is considered a toss-up. As one of the top money-raisers, she occupies the seventh position. Three Republicans are in the Top 10.
