Pakistan Emerges as Key Mediator as President Trump Signals Iran Nuclear Deal Is ‘Close’

A major diplomatic breakthrough may be on the horizon as President Donald Trump declared that a U.S.–Iran nuclear deal is “very close,” with Pakistan playing a central role in bringing both sides to the table.

According to multiple U.S. and international reports, negotiations are advancing toward a potential agreement that could see Iran scale back its nuclear program — including surrendering enriched uranium — in exchange for sanctions relief and economic incentives.

Behind the scenes, Pakistan has emerged as a serious diplomatic force. Senior Pakistani leadership — including military and civilian officials — has facilitated direct and indirect communication between Washington and Tehran, helping prevent escalation and push talks forward.

Islamabad has already hosted high-level negotiations and may host the final signing. President Trump himself acknowledged Pakistan’s role, saying the country has been “great” and even hinting he could travel to Islamabad if a deal is finalized there.

The progress follows weeks of intense U.S. pressure, including military action and a naval blockade targeting Iran’s economy.

At the same time, the administration has kept diplomatic channels open — a dual-track strategy that appears to be producing results. Trump has stated Iran has already agreed to key demands, including commitments not to pursue nuclear weapons for years.

Despite optimism, gaps remain. U.S. and Iranian negotiators are still divided over key issues such as uranium enrichment limits and financial terms, with discussions focusing on a possible interim agreement to prevent renewed conflict.

Still, momentum is undeniable. Officials say both sides are “inches away” from a framework that could stabilize the region and avoid a wider war.

If finalized, this agreement would mark a turning point:

  • For the United States: A major national security win without prolonged war

  • For Pakistan: A rise as a credible global mediator

  • For the region: A chance to step back from the brink

President Trump has made one thing clear — the goal is simple: ensure Iran never acquires nuclear weapons while avoiding endless conflict.

And now, with Pakistan at the center of diplomacy and Washington leading from a position of strength, that goal may be closer than ever.
