NYC’s Socialist Mayor-Elect Bends the Knee: Mamdani Scrambles to Appease President Trump After Fiery Anti-Trump Victory Speech

ree

New York City has elected Zohran Mamdani — a self-described democratic socialist, open-borders activist, and defender of illegal immigrants — and within days he’s already backpedaling. After spending months attacking President Donald J. Trump, Mamdani is now desperately signaling that his political survival depends on a good relationship with the very man he smeared on the campaign trail.

In a surprisingly submissive interview with NBC New York, Mamdani admitted that his relationship with President Trump “will be critical to the success” of the city — a stunning confession from someone who once accused Trump of “waging war on constitutional rights.” Suddenly, the socialist mayor-elect is preaching the importance of working with “anyone,” even Trump, as if years of radical rhetoric can be erased with a single interview.

Mamdani — who has pushed for city-run grocery stores, weakened policing, and expanded protections for illegal immigrants — now claims he’s eager to talk with Trump about lowering the cost of living and groceries. In other words, he wants Trump’s economic leadership but none of his law-and-order policies.

The mayor-elect even declared he would call the White House before taking office, saying the partnership is “critical to the success of this city.” Critical? That’s a far cry from the angry tirades he delivered just weeks ago.

President Trump, however, isn’t fooled. In an interview with Fox News’s Bret Baier, Trump said Mamdani was already off to a “bad start,” citing his hostile victory speech aimed at the President.

“I think he should be very nice to me,” Trump said bluntly. “I’m the one that has to approve a lot of things coming for him.”

Trump is right. For too long, New York’s radical leaders have spit in the face of the federal government while begging Washington for billions. That era is over. If Mamdani wants federal support, he will have to drop the socialist theatrics and start governing like an adult — not a campus activist.

Let’s be clear: New Yorkers didn’t elect a unifier. They elected a far-left ideologue who beat Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa by running on sanctuary-city extremism, anti-police policies, and fantasies of government-run supermarkets. And now, faced with the reality that MAGA America is back in charge, the socialist mayor-elect is making the first move toward political survival — bowing to the leadership of President Donald J. Trump, the man who saved the nation from going “communist in any shape or form.”

Whether this is a genuine shift or just damage control from a radical who needs federal dollars remains to be seen. But one thing is certain: President Trump holds the upper hand. And New York City may finally have a mayor who, for once, realizes that ignoring Washington — especially Trump’s Washington — is no longer an option.
