Morocco joins the other Arab countries in agreeing to normalize relations with Israel

Israel and Morocco agreed on Thursday to normalize relations in an agreement negotiated with the help of the United States, making Morocco the fourth Arab country to marginalize hostilities with Israel in the past four months.

As part of the agreement, President Donald Trump agreed to recognize Morocco's sovereignty over Western Sahara, a desert region where a decades-old territorial dispute between Morocco and the Algerian-backed Polisario Front, a separatist movement seeking to establish an independent state in the region.

The White House announced that Trump has sealed the deal between Israel and Morocco in a phone call to Morocco's King Mohammed VI on Thursday.

“Another HISTORIC breakthrough today! Our two GREAT friends Israel and the Kingdom of Morocco have agreed to full diplomatic relations – a massive breakthrough for peace in the Middle East!” Trump tweeted.
