Chaos Erupts as Shots Fired at White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Trump Evacuated

In a shocking breach of security at one of Washington’s most high-profile events, gunfire erupted Saturday night at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, forcing President Donald Trump and top U.S. officials to be rushed out by Secret Service agents.

According to verified reports from Reuters and the Associated Press, a heavily armed suspect attempted to storm a security checkpoint outside the ballroom at the Washington Hilton, firing shots that triggered panic among more than 2,000 attendees.

Witnesses described a terrifying scene as guests ducked under tables while agents shouted commands and secured the room. Cabinet officials were reportedly pushed to the ground as part of emergency protocol while Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were swiftly evacuated.

Law enforcement officials confirmed the suspect—armed with a shotgun, handgun, and knives—was quickly neutralized and taken into custody. One Secret Service agent was struck by gunfire but survived due to a bulletproof vest.

Despite the dramatic incident, authorities confirmed no attendees were killed or seriously injured, and all senior U.S. officials are safe.

President Trump later praised law enforcement for their rapid response, calling the situation “a very unexpected night” and confirming the suspect had been apprehended.

The annual dinner—symbolizing the relationship between the presidency and the press—was abruptly halted and is expected to be rescheduled.

This incident raises serious concerns about security vulnerabilities even at the most protected political gatherings in America, underscoring the growing threat environment facing national leadership.
