A new national survey suggests that a majority of American voters support President Donald Trump’s decision to launch a military operation targeting Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile capabilities, reinforcing the long-standing conservative argument that American strength deters global threats.
According to a survey released by Rasmussen Reports, 52% of likely U.S. voters approve of the military strike against Iran, including 35% who say they strongly approve of the decision. The poll found that 42% disapprove, with 30% strongly opposing the operation.
The survey, conducted March 3–5, 2026, included 1,085 likely U.S. voters and carries a margin of error of ±3 percentage points.
Trump Warns of Nuclear Threat
President Trump publicly announced the military campaign, known as Operation Epic Fury, on March 3, explaining that the strikes were intended to cripple Iran’s ability to develop nuclear weapons and long-range missile systems.
Trump framed the operation as a necessary step to protect American security and prevent the Iranian regime from gaining weapons capable of threatening the United States and its allies.
“An Iranian regime armed with long-range missiles and nuclear weapons would be a dire threat to every American,” Trump said. “We cannot allow a nation that raises terrorist armies to possess such weapons.”
The Rasmussen survey indicates that many Americans agree with the president’s warning.
Sixty-five percent of voters said they agree with Trump’s statement, including 45% who strongly agree, while 24% disagree and 10% say they are unsure.
Strong Republican Support
The poll also revealed strong backing among Republican voters for continuing the military campaign.
68% of Republicans say the operation should continue for at least several more weeks.
32% of Democrats support extending the campaign.
50% of independent voters agree that the operation should continue.
The numbers reflect the continuing divide in American politics over how aggressively the United States should confront adversaries such as Iran.
A Divided Nation on Foreign Policy
While the Rasmussen survey shows majority support, other national polls have reported lower levels of approval, highlighting the ongoing political debate surrounding U.S. military involvement in the Middle East. Still, the Rasmussen findings suggest that a significant portion of the American electorate supports decisive action against regimes pursuing nuclear weapons capabilities. For many American voters, the issue comes down to a principle long emphasized by President Trump and his supporters: America must confront emerging threats before they reach American shores.
