Los Angeles County reinstates indoor mask mandate with support from Biden's COVID-19 coordinator

An increase in COVID-19 cases has prompted President Joe Biden's COVID-19 response coordinator, Dr. Ashish Jha, to favor reinstatement of a mask mandate in Los Angeles County.

“My view on this has been very clear, which is local jurisdictions, cities, counties, states should make decisions about mask mandates because communities are different and their patterns of transmission are different,” Jha stated in the interview.

Jha’s comments come as Los Angeles County is looking likely to bring back its indoor mask mandate on July 29 if the county remains in the CDC-designated “high level” of COVID-19 transmission.

The Los Angeles County Public Health Department's Dr. Barbara Ferrer stated on July 14 that the county is presently experiencing a "high" level of viral transmission and that if this level is maintained for two consecutive weeks, the indoor mask mandate will be reimposed.
