Local economic success is considered a key to success by GOP governors

The GOP's standard argument going into the November elections is that President Joe Biden is responsible for high inflation and an impending recession.

Major Texas cities, however, experience higher inflation than the nation as a whole. There is a 10.2% inflation rate in the Houston area and a 9.4% inflation rate around Dallas, higher than the 8.5% inflation rate nationwide.

The Texas governor tweeted on July 28: “The U.S. economy is in a recession under Biden. Meanwhile, Texas was #1 in the nation for job growth in June & more Texans have jobs today than ever before in our state’s history.”

Despite the U.S. economy slumping into a recession, Republican-led parts of the country are still booming, according to Abbott and other GOP leaders. Biden's policies are blamed for sky-high gasoline and food prices, while they are credited with job gains resulting from those policies.
