A powerful message is emerging from Lebanon: “This is not your country.” As regional tensions continue to rise, more Lebanese voices are openly challenging Iran’s influence and the role of Hezbollah in dragging their nation into conflicts that serve Tehran rather than the Lebanese people.
For decades, Hezbollah has presented itself as a defender of Lebanon. Yet its military structure, financing, and strategic direction have long been tied to the Iranian regime. Critics inside and outside Lebanon increasingly argue that Hezbollah functions less as a national movement and more as an Iranian proxy operating within a sovereign state.
The consequences have been devastating. Lebanon has endured economic collapse, political paralysis, and repeated security crises while Hezbollah maintained an armed force independent of the Lebanese state. Recent reports show that Lebanon remains at the center of regional negotiations and security concerns because of the continuing conflict involving Hezbollah.
Growing domestic criticism has emerged from Lebanese citizens who believe their country is paying the price for decisions made in service of Iran’s regional ambitions rather than Lebanon’s national interests. Some observers describe a rising “Lebanon First” sentiment that calls for restoring full authority to the elected government and the Lebanese Armed Forces.
The path forward is clear. A free and sovereign Lebanon cannot exist while an armed organization answers to foreign interests. The Lebanese people deserve a government that decides questions of war and peace—not Tehran.
As pressure mounts across the region, the fundamental question remains: Will Lebanon be governed from Beirut, or influenced from Tehran? For many Lebanese, the answer is becoming increasingly clear.
