On July 26, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) accused the FBI of using its power against two senators by arranging a briefing about intelligence. FBI officials halted Hunter Biden's investigation in 2020 by inaccurately identifying verified evidence as disinformation.

A letter written by Johnson in response to the whistleblower revelations says "if these allegations are true, it is clear the FBI's August 6, 2020 briefing was actually intended to undermine the Congressional investigation."

The letter was addressed to Attorney General Merrick Garland, Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines, FBI Director Christopher Wray, and Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz.
