Ending Capital Gains on Home Sales Could Unleash Housing Market

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a move that could revolutionize the American housing market and deliver historic relief to millions of hard-working homeowners, President Donald J. Trump announced Tuesday that his administration is “thinking about” eliminating capital gains tax on home sales — a bold America First policy move that drew immediate praise from conservative champions like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).

The remarks came during a joint press event with Philippines President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. When asked about the idea, Trump responded with clarity and conviction:

“We’re thinking about that. But it would also unleash you just by lowering the interest rates. If the Fed would lower the rates, we wouldn’t even have to do that.”
ree

But the real spark came when Trump reiterated his administration is actively considering the end of federal capital gains taxes on residential property — a move that would not only stimulate the economy but also restore property rights to the American people.

Wasting no time, Rep. Greene took to social media and press circuits to thank President Trump and promote her bill — the No Tax on Home Sales Act, introduced on July 10, 2025. This legislation would:

  • ELIMINATE federal capital gains taxes on primary home sales

  • FREE homeowners to relocate without being punished for appreciation

  • INCREASE housing inventory by removing penalties for selling

  • GIVE first-time buyers a better shot at the American Dream

Greene, a fierce America First warrior, declared:

“Thank you, President Trump, for supporting my No Tax on Home Sales Act! My bill would ELIMINATE the federal capital gains tax on the sale of your primary residence. You worked for it. You should keep it. Let’s get this bill passed!”

.

Currently, the IRS only allows up to $250,000 in gains for singles and $500,000 for joint filers to be excluded from tax — limits that haven’t changed since 1997. That’s right: for nearly three decades, the Washington elite have refused to adjust for inflation or soaring home values, effectively punishing success and trapping families in their homes.

Thanks to Trump and America First patriots like Greene, that may finally end.

Imagine a housing market unburdened by bureaucratic theft. Seniors downsizing without being penalized. Growing families finally able to move up. First-time buyers finding more homes on the market. That’s real economic freedom.

Predictably, the liberal media has responded with confusion and half-truths. Outlets like CNN immediately rushed to “explain” the current system — as if the American people aren’t already feeling the pain of inflation, rising home prices, and unfair taxes.

What CNN won’t tell you is this: it’s your home, your money, your decision. And with Trump back in the White House, Washington’s war on property rights may finally be ending.

President Trump’s comments are more than talk — they are a sign that 2025 is the year the silent majority takes back its financial freedom. This policy could become one of the most powerful pro-homeowner reforms in modern U.S. history.

The working class built America. It's time we stopped taxing their success.

It’s time we ended capital gains tax on homes — permanently.
