Dr. Mehmet Oz's spokesperson said that the celebrity surgeon supports same-sex marriage as the Senate considers passing the Respect for Marriage Act. Federal legislation would codify same-sex marriages and interracial marriages which have been passed by the U.S. House.

After Roe v. Wade was overturned last month, Justice Clarence Thomas suggested that same-sex marriage, contraception, and LGBTQ rights could be reconsidered. On July 19, “The Respect for Marriage Act,” passed the House 267-157, including support from 47 Republicans.

Brittany Yanick, Oz campaign spokesperson, responded to a question about Oz's opinion about the bill by saying, "Dr. Mehmet Oz believes that same-sex couples should be able to marry as easily as straight couples."
