Outgoing Democrat Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Texas is facing intense criticism after appearing to minimize the deadly weapon used by convicted murderer Karmelo Anthony during a recent episode of her podcast.

Anthony was convicted and sentenced to 35 years in prison for the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a Texas high school track meet. Prosecutors argued that Anthony escalated a dispute and stabbed Metcalf in the chest, while the defense unsuccessfully claimed self-defense.

During her podcast, Crockett reportedly held her fingers close together to suggest the knife was only about an inch long and questioned whether it should even be considered a deadly weapon. She and her guests described the weapon as a small multi-tool or Swiss Army-style knife, with Crockett arguing that its size alone would not make most people think of it as deadly.
