Owners of Burger King franchises in Russia have refused to close their stores despite pressure to do so, the president of Burger King said Thursday.
According to a press release from Restaurant Brands International's president, David Shear, the Russian Burger Kings' owner has rebuffed the company's repeated calls to close, thus putting the company in an insecure position because it can only pressure him if it wants to.
“Would we like to suspend all Burger King operations immediately in Russia? Yes. Are we able to enforce a suspension of operations today? No,” Shear wrote in the release.
Shear said he “demanded the suspension of Burger King restaurant operations in Russia” but Kolobov has refused.
