Former DeRidder Mayor Misty Roberts, 43, is standing trial in Beauregard Parish on charges stemming from an alleged sexual encounter with a 16-year-old boy during a July 2024 pool party at her home.
Roberts has pleaded not guilty to charges including third-degree rape, carnal knowledge of a juvenile, and indecent behavior with a juvenile. Prosecutors allege alcohol was present at the gathering, which included several teenagers. The teen involved was reportedly a friend of Roberts’ son.
During testimony, jurors heard that Roberts’ son told investigators he saw his mother and the teen through a window and believed they were engaged in sexual activity. On the stand, he later said he was not certain what he saw that night. Roberts’ daughter previously told investigators she saw the pair “on top of each other,” according to evidence presented in court.
Prosecutors introduced text messages showing the teen’s mother contacted Roberts after the incident to ask whether she might be pregnant. Authorities allege Roberts replied she was on birth control and later ordered emergency contraception through DoorDash. A delivery driver testified he delivered Plan B to the residence shortly after the party.
Witnesses also described emotional confrontations within the family following the alleged incident. Photos from the gathering and additional testimony from friends and relatives were presented to jurors as part of the state’s case.
Roberts resigned as mayor shortly before her arrest in 2024. An earlier indictment in the case was dismissed, and a mistrial was declared before the current proceedings began.
The trial remains ongoing.
