President Joe Biden approved a major disaster declaration for Texas, which has suffered widespread blackouts and water shortages during a deadly freeze, the Federal Emergency Management Agency said Saturday.
Millions of residents in the United States' largest oil and gas producer faced blackouts, and nearly half of Texas residents on Friday were forced to endure a water service outage. Nearly twenty deaths were attributed to the sudden storm and snowfall.
The measure allows federal money to people across the state, including help with temporary housing, home repairs, and low-cost loans.
