A key highway from Donbass cities is reached by Russian forces

According to Ukrainian authorities, advancing Russian forces briefly seized the last highway out of a pair of key Ukrainian-held cities in the east before being beaten back, an official said.

In an attempt to encircle Ukrainian forces in Sievierodonetsk and Lysychansk, Russian forces have poured thousands of troops into their assault in the eastern Donbass region. The fall of these cities would transform Luhansk Province into a largely Russian domain, a key Kremlin war goal.
