Whitehouse Mayor James Wansley identified the deceased as W M Soloman, 71, who died when a tree fell onto his home in Whitehouse, which is located about 100 miles (160 kilometers) southeast of Dallas, after storms in eastern Texas, he said.
“Our prayers are with the friends and family of Mr. Soloman, who we lost early this morning when the storm pushed a tree down across his home”, said Wansley said in a statement.
A tornado and strong winds ripped through the South on Tuesday, damaging buildings and tearing down trees, causing two deaths, officials said.
In addition to the downed power lines and obstructed traffic, the storm also damaged property in the heart of Whitehouse, Wansley concluded.
South Carolina also issued warnings following the evacuation of the state House chamber due to a tornado warning for Columbia, delaying a debate on legislation requiring athletes to compete according to their birth certificates.
