Deadly violence erupted in Pakistan on Sunday as hundreds of Shiite demonstrators stormed the United States Consulate in Karachi following the reported death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a U.S.–Israeli strike.
At least nine protesters were killed and dozens wounded in clashes with police and paramilitary forces, according to authorities. Security forces opened fire to repel the mob that breached the consulate perimeter amid clashes that spilled into surrounding streets and nearby police posts.
Protesters chanted anti-American and anti-Israeli slogans, blaming Washington for the escalation in the Middle East. The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad confirmed it is monitoring demonstrations at consular facilities nationwide and urged American citizens to exercise caution.
This episode underscores rising tensions in Muslim nations over the U.S. military campaign against Iran and marks one of the most serious attacks on American diplomatic missions in Pakistan in decades.
