Federal agents allegedly seized privileged documents from former President Donald Trump's Florida resort, which has been the subject of allegations of improper handling by federal agents.

Alina Habba, one of Trump's attorneys, said on Newsmax on Aug. 15 that Trump's attorneys requested a special master in this case.

The judge overseeing a case may appoint a special master when it is thought that privileged materials are involved in a case. A special master is typically a retired judge.

As a result of FBI agents seizing material from Rudy Giuliani and Project Veritas leadership in recent years, special masters have been appointed to investigate cases involving Trump's former attorney and Project Veritas.

The US government objected to appointing a special master in the latter case for "ensuring that there is a perception of fairness," according to U.S. District Judge Analisa Torres, an Obama appointee.

Trump’s team has not formally asked the federal court in southern Florida, which approved the search warrant that FBI agents expected at Mar-a-Lago on Aug. 8, for a special master.

A number of Republicans, among others, have said Trump is being unfairly targeted by the government for political reasons.
