Ukraine Biolabs don't have offensive biologic weapons: Pentagon

According to a Pentagon official, no offensive biologic weapons are being developed in the Ukraine labs funded by the United States.

Assistant Secretary of Defense for Nuclear, Chemical, and Biological Defense Deborah Rosenbaum testified before a House Subcommittee on Intelligence and Special Operations on Friday that the United States has not been actively involved in offensive biologic weapon development in Ukraine.

In a joint statement, both U.S. and Ukrainian officials said the labs are designed to prevent bioweapons and pathogens. The Pentagon funds these labs through the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, a Department of Defense agency that defends the country against weapons of mass destruction.

The Biological Threat Reduction Program has “improved Ukraine’s biological safety, security, and surveillance for both human and animal health,” the Pentagon fact sheet states.

In a statement posted to Telegram on March 6, the Russian Ministry of Defense accused Ukraine of destroying pathogens being studied at a lab in Ukraine, which the ministry claims is funded by the United States Department of Defense.
