SPAIN DEFEATS FRANCE 2 – 0

Spain continued it’s recent Dominance over France to advance to the FIFA World Cup Final on

Sunday at 3pm EST vs the winner of England vs Argentina.

France (#3) and Spain( #2) in the FIFA World Cup rankings, entered this semi final contest

undefeated in the tournament. France (6-0) held all 3 opponents in the knock out round

scoreless, defeating Sweden 3-0, Paraguay 1-0 and Morocco 2-0, Spain (6-0) defeated Austria

3-0, Portugal 1-0 and Belgium 2-1 to advance to the semifinal.

Both France and Spain were the only teams in the tournament to never trail in any of their

previous 6 victories – that would have to end and it did in the 21st minute when Spains Mikel

Oyarzabal converted a Free kick with a perfectly placed kick in the right corner of the net to put

Spain up 1-0 and that’s how the first half ended.

France was trying to reach the World Cup Final for the 3rd consecutive year, and getting by

Spain, who had defeated them in the previous 2 games they had played and have dominated

the series winning 18 games with 7 draws and 13 losses, would be a daunting task.

Spain won their only appearance in the World Cup Final in 2010 and had allowed just 1 goal in

their 6 tournament victories played a superb game. Leading 1-0 heading into the 2nd half Spain

forward Pedro Porro scored on a beautifully executed give and go at the 57:40 mark to give

Spain their 2-0 lead and send them to their 2nd FIFA World Cup Final.
