Senator Ted Cruz (Republican from Texas) criticized what he described as a "humanitarian crisis" while speaking on the southern border.

In a video posted on his Twitter account late Thursday, the Texas state representative confirmed that he and 18 other senators had visited detention centers along the Rio Grande. He said families and children are being held in outdoor pens.

Along the riverbank, Cruz said he could see people smugglers mocking border agents. The Republican lawmaker said the smugglers know they can drown people across the border and charge thousands of dollars per person.
