Three Democratic-led Senate hearings are seeking answers over the Biden administration's handling of the troop pullout from Afghanistan, following the Taliban militant group's unchallenged capture of the country's capital, Kabul, on Sunday.
President Biden defended his decision to remove American troops from Afghanistan in a speech on Monday. He did acknowledge, though, that the Afghan government collapsed more rapidly than predicted, implying a lack of fighting spirit on their part.
Sen. Bob Menendez, the Democratic chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, highlighted his displeasure with the happenings in Afghanistan in a statement on Tuesday, vowing to call a session on US strategy toward the country.
