On Oct. 7, Republican members of Congress sent a letter to AG Merrick Garland and Sec. of State Antony Blinken regarding the existence of Chinese service stations in NYC.
As part of China's (CCP) global transnational repression, the Chinese authorities have set up 54 police stations across five continents, including the United States. The letter comes after a September report by NGO Safeguard Defenders revealed the Chinese authorities had set up the stations.
“We are writing to express our grave concern over reports of the law enforcement presence of the People’s Republic of China in New York City,” the 21 lawmakers wrote, referring to China’s full name.
“The Chinese overseas police service station established in New York City earlier this year appears to be a further step of China’s illicit long arm policing on U.S. soil that violates our sovereignty,” Republican Study Committee chairman Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.), Reps. Michael Waltz (R-Fla.), Mike Gallagher (R-Wis.), and 18 other GOP House members wrote in the letter.
The Public Security Bureau in Fuzhou city, the capital of the southern coastal province of Fujian, has opened 30 overseas police stations in 21 countries, including an outpost in New York City.
On its website, the American Changle Association, a non-profit organization founded in 1998, claims to have the division of the Chinese police authorities in New York, called Fuzhou Police Oversea Service Station.
