Ford's auto sales in the U.S. dropped 7% in 2021

On Wednesday, Ford Motor Co. reported a 6.8% drop in 2021 U.S. vehicle sales as the company struggled to deliver its vehicles due to ongoing supply-chain bottlenecks and a global semiconductor shortage.

In 2021, the Detroit automaker sold 1,905,955 automobiles, trailing new leader Toyota Motor Corp. and competitor General Motors Co. in the United States. A year ago, Ford sold 2,044,744 automobiles.

According to Wards Intelligence, total small car sales in the United States in 2021 were just under 15 million, well below the five-year average of 17.3 million from 2015 to 2019.

The Mustang Mach-E powered crossing sold 27,140 units in 2021, according to Ford. To fulfill higher-than-expected demand, the business expects to quadruple yearly production of the electric crossover to more than 200,000 by 2023.
