Democratic headaches pile up over Covid aid

By US Department of Labor

Speaker Nancy Pelosi apologized in front of her caucus for having to ask two top Biden administration health officials to approve more funding for Coronavirus relief.

Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra and top infectious disease adviser Anthony Fauci told Pelosi they were sorry to appear before members of the president's on party to ask for $15 billion to continue a global fight against Covid.

Several Democrats in the closed-door Democratic meeting reported that Pelosi's remarks reflected growing frustration among party leaders about the difficulty of advancing the $15 billion pandemic assistance package. Pelosi has been searching for ways to approve that funding after members of her caucus resisted the idea of clawing back hundreds of millions in state aid.
