U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth, who visited Taiwan for the second time this year, said on Tuesday that the United States remains committed to Taiwan.

Continuing its campaign of regular flights to the island, China sent 30 military aircraft there on Monday. Air defense systems were put on alert, and radio warnings were issued by Taiwan's Defense Ministry.

Duckworth underscored the close ties between Washington and Taiwan during his meeting with Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen.

“I do want to say that it is more than just about military. It’s also about the economy,” the Illinois Democrat told Tsai.

As well as Duckworth for keeping a close watch on Taiwan related security issues, Tsai thanked the U.S. government and Congress for "putting such an emphasis on peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait."
