'Child porn' charges are filed against former Maine politician

Eliot Cutler, two-time candidate for governor of Maine, was arrested on March 25 for having child pornography.


Search warrants were executed on two of his Maine homes before he was arrested. According to The Associated Press, officers searched a Brooklyn farmhouse and a Portland townhome on March 23.


The bail for Cutler, 75, was set at $50,000 when he was booked into Hancock County Jail. It is reported the arrest of Cutler, a well-known political figure in Bangor, Maine, came as a surprise after a two-

month investigation.


After the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip from Maine state police in December 2021, they began investigating cases of child exploitation. Cutler was arrested as a result of the investigation.


According to the arrest affidavit, Cutler was found with 10 files of child pornographic material. He has been charged with four counts of possessing sexually explicit content of children under the age of 12, with each count carrying a maximum penalty of five years in jail.
