Building Back Better report dismissed by White House

The White House shot off a report on Tuesday that the management is working on an alternative spending package to replace President Joe Biden's climate and social spending plan.

White House spokesperson Andrew Bates called a Reuters claim that the White House is putting together a new package that includes aspects of the delayed $2 trillion Build Back Better measure "off-base."

According to Reuters, the new bill would keep parts of the original bill that address climate change, but it would be smaller because of financial support for other provisions, such as the extension of the enhanced child tax credit and four weeks of paid family and medical leave, would be reduced significantly entirely.

The comprehensive measure, which was a flagship internal policy objective for Biden in his first term, was passed by the House in late November, but it has run into difficulties in the Senate owing to Senator Joe Manchin's opposition (D-W.Va.).
