Following his promise to make the kingdom a "pariah" on the world stage when he was running for president, Biden gave Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman a fist bump and shook hands with King Salman on Friday.

During Biden's visit to Saudi Arabia, the governor of Mecca province, which includes the Red Sea city of Jeddah, met with him and said he would discuss human rights during the visit.

“We believe any further action taken to ensure that there is sufficient energy to protect the health of the global economy, it will be done in the context of OPEC+,” said Sullivan. “We are hopeful that we will see additional actions by OPEC+ in coming weeks.”

“The president discusses it when he’s in Europe, when he’s in Asia. And he certainly will be discussing here in the Middle East and here in Saudi Arabia,” Sullivan said.

In en route to Jeddah, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan told reporters that Biden would discuss energy security with Gulf oil producers and hoped OPEC+ would take action to boost production.
