A 19-year-old Marine is charged in a collision that killed two servicemen in North Carolina

U.S. Marines are investigating a fatal crash near Camp Lejeune in North Carolina that resulted in the deaths of two service members and the injuries of 17 others. A 19-year-old Marine has been charged with the crash.


Fox News reports the driver was Louis Barrera of Springfield, Tennessee. He was charged with two counts of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and one count of exceeding a safe speed, the department said.


The deadly incident happened at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the intersection of U.S. 17 and Highway 210 in Jacksonville, according to the state highway patrol.


All troops involved in the collision were active duty and assigned at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, according to a statement from the 2nd Marine Logistics Group. According to the statement, they were assigned to the II Marine Expeditionary Force.
