Trump Considering 2024 Run & Plans to Help Republican party in 2022
Former President Donald Trump said in an interview broadcast Monday evening that former President Donald Trump is focused on helping Republicans change the House of Representatives in 2022, but is also considering another presidential race two years later.
“We are going to help with the House. I think we have a really good chance. I’m working with everybody, including [House Republican Leader] Kevin McCarthy, in taking back the House. I think we have a really good chance,” Trump said during an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity.
Trump sees Rep. Mo Brooks (R) as a strong candidate for a seat in Alabama that will be vacated by the retirement of Senator Richard Shelby (R from Alabama). He sees New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu as a potential winner in the race there, as Senator Maggie Hassan (DNH) (D-N.H.) battles for another term, and says the Republican Party has good candidates in Ohio, where Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) leaves office.
“Almost everybody I endorse wins,” Trump said, taking credit for boosting Rep. Julia Letlow (R-La.) in her recent race to succeed her husband, who died before being sworn in.
“If they want to win, yes,” Trump said. “If you want to win and win big, you have to do that. You have to do it,” he added, recalling how Texas Gov. Greg Abbott conveyed to him that the state’s GOP candidates saw the biggest Hispanic vote in decades in the 2020 election.
Trump supported many Republicans in the election, campaigning across the country for candidates for re-election or elections in both the House and Senate.
The Republicans lost three Senate seats in the election. And because they lost the White House as well, they ceded control of the Senate to the Democrats. Each party has 50 senators, but Vice President Kamala Harris can cast run-off votes.
Republicans won 15 seats in the House, including one Liberal. The party reduced the majority of Democrats from 35 to six, including Letlow’s last victory.
For 2024, Trump said he has not made a final decision yet.
