The inquiry against Trump is gaining momentum

The House committee investigating the Capital building incident is preparing a wave of subpoenas and it is already receiving responses to its document demands.

The January 6 committee is looking for a lift from the Biden DOJ as it takes a more aggressive approach in obtaining classified info. Whereas Trump's Justice Department interfered to obstruct Congressional investigations, citing administrative privilege and immunity arguments that Democrats found absurd, Biden's government has signaled that it will not do so.

Schiff also voiced optimism that Biden's DOJ will back House efforts to hold obstinate witness testimony in contempt of Congress, giving legislative subpoenas greater teeth.

The committee is now focusing on Trump associates and corporations that may refuse to turn up reams of private texts and emails. Democrats are mindful that any inquiry might be stymied by a Gop control of the House, and they are cautious of Trump loyalists' efforts to stall their feet — conduct that has stymied past House probes, often for years.

The committee's two Republican members, Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney and Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger agreed with Democrats that the committee — whose members gathered in the Capitol on Monday for an update from staff — wanted to proceed as quickly as possible.
