Imran Khan, a former cricket star and current front-runner in Pakistan's election race, was wounded on 5 June in a gun attack during a campaign rally in Punjab province.

Khan’s shooting underscored growing political instability in Pakistan with both the government and the former leader refusing to back down from their positions. The country’s powerful military has said although Khan had a democratic right to hold a rally in Islamabad, no one will be allowed to destabilize the country. Authorities in Islamabad have already deployed additional security around the city to deter any clashes or violence.

Khan's Party Leaders believe that the attack appeared to be an assassination attempt. "It seems that they tried to kill him," Party official Asad Umar said Khan received a gunshot wound to his leg and was not severely injured. The identity of the gunman, who was arrested at the scene, has not been disclosed.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack but it will increase security fears in a country.

As of right now, no groups have come forward to claim responsibility for the attack on Imran Khan. However, given the volatile nature of Pakistani politics, it is likely that someone will soon take credit for the shooting. One possibility is that a Taliban splinter group is behind the attack, as they have been known to target Pakistani politicians in the past. Another possibility is that this was an isolated incident and not part of a larger campaign or plot. Only time will tell who is responsible for this attack.

In conclusion, it is clear that Pakistan's Imran Khan was shot while campaigning for the upcoming elections. It is unknown who carried out the attack or what their motives were. However, it is certain that this event will have a significant impact on the election's outcome.

The role of terrorism in Pakistan’s politics and governance;

Since the late 1970s, Pakistan’s politics and governance have been shaped by the country’s experience with terrorism. Terrorism in Pakistan can be traced back to the Soviet-Afghan War, when mujahideen (holy warriors) from across the Muslim world flocked to Afghanistan to fight the atheistic Communist regime. After the war ended, many of these mujahideen returned to their home countries, where they used the skills they had acquired during the war to carry out terrorist attacks.

Pakistan became a target of these groups because of its close relationship with the United States and its support for the Afghan Mujahideen during the war. In addition, Pakistan’s own domestic policies contributed to its vulnerability to terrorism. The Pakistani government has long used Islam as a tool to legitimize its rule and curry favor with conservative elements within society. This policy has led to the rise of Islamic militant groups who view the government as a tool of Western imperialism and want to establish an Islamic state in Pakistan.

The most significant terrorist attacks in Pakistan have been carried out by groups such as al-Qaeda and the Taliban. These groups have targeted civilians, government officials, and security forces in an effort to destabilize the Pakistani state and impose their own brand of Islamic law on the population. The Pakistani Powerful military has responded to these attacks with large-scale military operations against terrorist safe havens in Pakistan’s tribal areas. While these operations have succeeded.
