Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on Tuesday he would set a date for the vote if House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Trump administration can seal a deal on a massive coronavirus relief bill.
Despite Republican opposition, McConnell said that if this bill passes in the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives, with Trump's blessing, "we will bring it to the Senate."
The Pelosi-Mnuchin talks also include an unemployment epidemic, and a second round of $ 1,200 in direct payments and money for schools, tests and vaccinations.
Pelosi said Tuesday was a deadline, but she said in an interview with Bloomberg News that the goal is to get the two sides to share their best proposals on a host of outstanding issues, not to close all of their differences or get final legislation language at hand.
