Joe Biden transition team legal action over agency's delay in recognizing election victory

A Biden official said on Monday that Joe Biden's transition team is considering legal action to delay a federal agency to recognize the Democratic victory over President Donald Trump in last week's election.

The law does not clearly specify when the GSA should act, but transitional officials in Biden say his victory is clear and the delay is unjustified, even as Trump refuses to acknowledge defeat.

GSA Administrator Emily Murphy who was appointed by Trump in 2017, has yet to determine that "the winner is clear." A source close to Murphy said she was a meticulous professional and would take her time to make an accurate decision.

"The legal procedure is certainly a possibility, but there are also other options that we are studying," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, declining to outline other options.
