The collapse of a snow-covered bridge in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, occurred several hours before President Joe Biden was scheduled to speak about infrastructure.

Ten people were injured in the collapse early on Friday morning. The bridge, located in the Point Breeze neighborhood, spans Forbes Avenue and Frick Park, said the city's Department of Public Safety on Twitter, which said the collapse occurred around 7 a.m. ET.

Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey told reporters at the scene, "We were fortunate that there weren't any fatalities."

Pittsburgh Fire Chief Darryl Jones told the Post-Gazette that three people were transported to the hospital. None had injuries that were considered life-threatening, he added.

Rich Fitzgerald, the Allegheny County Executive, said during his visit that the bridge is "a major artery" for certain commuters.

The road is so important to so many people coming from the East End, through Squirrel Hill to Oakland, and on into town that a lot of work needs to be done, he said.
